Elbereth Elentari observed the twinkling stars above Tavrobel until they begun to fade with the burgeoning dawn. It was only then that she became aware of the whispering carried to her on the slightest of breezes. She rose, with more haste than was her wont and took the flower strewn path towards the water's edge. Her eyes skimmed the surface, piercing the tranquility and searching the deep for his coming. Her heart fluttered, as it always did when one of the Valar chose to bless her with their presence.
Ulmo had last called to her in the matter of the establishment of a Unifying Council among the folk of The River Lands. That proceeding was still open and she had not expected further notice from the Valar so soon, if at all.
Her face betrayed her emotion as the water bubbled and swirled, revealing the broad shoulders and seaweed-braided hair of Ulmo, King of the Seas.
"Amatulya, Melda heru" (Blessed arrival, beloved Lord), she smiled shyly upon seeing the smile gracing his lips.
Ulmo's deep voice seemed to envelope the entire haven and the tang of sea salt drifted across the hills, "Alla, Elberethya" (Hail, my Elbereth)!
Elbereth knelt at the water's edge, the warmth radiating from the Valar flowing over her and replenishing her very essence. A grateful sigh escaped her lips as she waited patiently for Ulmo to reveal the reason for this summons.
"Sadril (Loyal one), the Queen of Sirenia has begun her last journey towards eternal Light. Her passing may bring upheaval to the merfolk, as her successor was not officially revealed during her long and peaceful reign."
The mighty Valar held her gaze, his vision delving deep into the myriad of thoughts that had sprung into her mind, before he continued in an even tone. "These tidings bare little cause for unease among the Elves, but I sense the potential for insecurity and even Darkness among the mer realm and those who have dealings with them."
Elbereth inclined her head in a gesture of understanding. "May the Mer-Queen glory in everlasting rest and peace," she intoned hopefully and sent an orison towards the barely there stars.
Ulmo nodded approvingly. "I bid you be alert, Elbereth. Cast your eyes beyond the forest havens and spare a moment for the coastal dwellers and those who populate the waters of these lands," Ulmo said, his words ending with a smile that softened the tone of his message.
And as the mighty Valar took his leave, his hand resting for a moment on her head as he bestowed his blessing for her, the ripples hugging his frame parted and Ulmo descended into his watery realm.
Elbereth remained poised at the edge of the swirling blue froth and her eyes immediately flew across the hills and forests until she caught a glimpse of the glittering shores and a foreboding of oncoming turmoil filled her heart.
